Ten Best-Selling Car Models Worldwide In 2022

In 2022, the global automobile market faced unprecedented challenges. Many automakers struggled and their goals were out of reach.

Toyota Motor Corporation (TYO:7203) sold 10.4830 million vehicles, the most of any automaker for the third year in a row, but sales fell 0.1% year on year. 

Volkswagen Group sales fell 7% to approximately 8.3 million vehicles, the lowest level in nearly 11 years; Hyundai Motor Co. (KRX:005380) ranked third globally with approximately 6.85 million vehicles sold.

2. Toyota RAV-4

Country: Japan

The Toyota RAV4 finished second with 870,000 units sold, maintaining its position as the world's best-selling SUV. 

Its popularity stems from its excellent reliability and fuel economy, as well as its excellent product strengths: especially the engine and overall dependability. 

However, its global sales structure is visible in nearly 150 countries and regions with Toyota sales networks.


3. Ford F-Series

Units Sold: 790,000 
Country: United States

With 790,000 vehicles sold, the Ford F-Series finished third in sales. 

For 41 years, this pickup (which includes the base F-150, F-150 Lightning pure electric pickup, and F-series Super Duty) has been the best-selling vehicle type in the United States. 

The F-Series will celebrate its 75th anniversary in 2023, and more special editions are expected.


4. Tesla Model Y

Country: United States

The all-electric Tesla Model Y sold 760,000 units last year, making it the world's best-selling pure electric SUV. 

It jumped from 15th to 4th place in 2022, marking the first time a pure electric model made the top five. 

Elon Musk's goals do not stop there: he predicts that the Model Y will be the best-selling car in the world by 2023, as production ramps up in Texas and Berlin.


5. Toyota Camry

Toyota's Camry is yet another solid market favourite, and it may be the only car a consumer will ever need. 

The Toyota Camry sold 680,000 units in 2022. This is relatively understandable as the Toyota Camry has plenty of interior space and is available with a variety of fuel-efficient engines.

6. Honda CR-V
