Ten Football Clubs With The Most Revenue Generated In 2022

Clubs were always in business but with the increasing popularity of sports, their revenues have also skyrocketed. 

Chelsea and Paris St. Germain are two clubs that have garnered the interest of numerous billionaires and investors from across the world.

Football clubs make cash through merchandise sales, ticket sales, partnerships, sponsorships, and other means, and they do so in a professional manner.

Many football clubs made a lot of money in the year 2022 and are hoping to make even more this year.

Below are ten football clubs with the most revenue generated in 2022.


10. Tottenham Hotspurs – $483 million

With around $500 million in revenue, the London club ranks tenth on this list.

Last season, they finished fourth in the league rankings and so qualified for the Champions League this season.

They are now in fifth place and would undoubtedly desire to return to the top four.


9. Juventus – $515 million

Juventus is the only Italian team in this top ten. Juventus, the team with the most Serie A titles, had a disappointing season last year.

They finished fourth in the league but made it into the top ten teams in terms of income.

Juventus are now in better form than they were last season, although they are still behind Napoli on the league table. 


8. Chelsea – $586 million

Chelsea's 2022 season was pivotal. They saw the club's transition to new ownership.

Amid the Russia-Ukraine war, Russian businessman Roman Abramovich sold the club to American billionaire Todd Boehly despite sanctions.

Chelsea has been adjusting to the new management since then and the club has spent a lot of money on transfers this summer and is still seeking more.

They finished third last season, but this season, with all the turmoil surrounding ownership, coach dismissal, and transfer objectives, they have fallen to tenth place in the league.


7. Liverpool – $654 million

Liverpool had an exciting season last year. They were beaten to the title by Manchester City by a single point.

Sadio Mane left the club last summer to join German giants Bayern Munich and Liverpool spent money in the summer window to replace their star.

They added attacking players such as Nunez and World Cup wonder Cody Gakpo.

Liverpool is struggling this season, presently sitting in seventh place.


6. Paris Saint-Germain – $661 million

They are the only French club on this list.  The addition of Lionel Messi had a big influence on PSG's income statement.

In 2022, Paris St Germain earned $661 million in income. They won the league last year and are presently leading the points table.

PSG's lethal attacking three is in top form and is a strong contender for the Champions League this season.


5. Manchester United – $663 million

Manchester United have not won the Premier League since Sir Alex Ferguson's departure following the title-winning 2012/13 season.

For Red Devils supporters, last year was a roller coaster journey. They observed everything from management changes to owner resentment to the Ronaldo issue.

Their performance was one of the poorest in history, with their lowest points ever.

Despite this, they were able to generate a substantial amount of income.

For any Manchester United supporter, seeing a club of such status embroiled in such issues was torment.

Manchester United, under new manager Eric Ten Hag should seem energetic and in form in the new year.

They had a difficult start to the season but are showing signs of development as they are currently in the fourth spot.


4. FC Barcelona – $692 million

Last year, the Spanish giants made headlines due to financial difficulties.

These financial issues led to the departure of their icon, Lionel Messi.

Barcelona, in addition to its financial problems, lacked performance.

Despite these problems, Barcelona began to rebuild the club by bringing in a fresh youthful recruit and a new manager, Xavi Hernandez.

They had a whirlwind season last year but still finished second.

This year, following significant investment, they want to bring trophies back to Camp Nou.

They managed to produce 692 million US dollars in income in 2022, which will be critical in resolving their financial issues.


3. Bayern Munich – $726 million

The German giants are third on the list. Last year, they generated $726 million in revenues.

Bayern Munich added Sadio Mane to their attacking stock this summer. 

They are the undisputed champions of the Bundesliga and are winning it for quite some time.

They are currently at the top of the points table, again.

 

2. Real Madrid – $761 million

In 2022, Los Blancos earned the second-highest income.

Given their outstanding performance last season, the defending Champions League and La Liga champions are well-deserving of their position.

The Ballon d'Or victory for star striker Karim Benzema was the icing on the cake.

Real Madrid won the league last season, but this year they face stiff opposition from Xavi's Barcelona, who is now atop the standings.

They are is presently in second place, three points behind FC Barcelona.

 

1. Manchester City – $766 million

The reigning Premier League champions lead this list. In 2022, they generated 766 million US dollars.

Pep Guardiola's leadership has transformed Manchester City. Pep Guardiola's Manchester City have intimidated other English clubs.

Manchester City has won four Premier League championships since he arrived in 2016. Manchester City signed Haaland to their roster this summer, giving them extra firepower.

They are presently second in the Premier League and will face stiff opposition this season from league leaders Arsenal.
