Ten Hag Insists Anfield's 'Hostile' Atmosphere Won't Stop Ma

Erik ten Hag

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag insists that the "hostile" atmosphere of Anfield will not have any negative effect on his players.

United will be visiting Anfield on Sunday to play Liverpool in a reverse fixture.

The last time both teams met this term United won the game 2-1 to begin Ten Hag's revolution at the club.

While United who were recently crowned Carabao Cup champions are currently in third place in the league with 49 points and one game in hand, Liverpool sit in sixth position with 39 points, 10 points adrift of their arch-rivals following an impressive recovery run.

Speaking ahead of Sunday's showpiece at Liverpool, Ten Hag said he's looking forward to playing and winning in a hostile atmosphere.

"I know the ambience and the atmosphere will be great," he said. "It will be hostile against us - we like it.

"It is of course a test to be facing Liverpool but we are really looking forward to it.

"We know these players - my squad, my team - will be prepared to go with fight and confidence.

"We know it is going to be difficult. We know we have to suffer. We have to sacrifice to get a good result."

When quizzed on whether it is important to produce a statement win away from home, the gaffer added:  "I think, away from home, we have had some really good performances.

"For me, it is no different. The pitch everywhere is the same size.

"There are the same number of referees. The ball is round. There is air in the ball.

"So we have to play and to make it our game."

He continued: "Of course, we know the ambience will not be supporting us.

"You have to deal with that but, as I said, our players like it. They like to play in this atmosphere."
