This compiled list below encapsulates the highest-paid presidents and the Prime Ministers: the head of government in a parliamentary system.

With a salary of $1.6 million per year, Singaporean President Halimah Yacob is the highest-paid leader in the world in 2023.
In an uncontested election, she was sworn in as president in 2017.
She held the position of speaker of the house from 2013 to 2017 before her election as president and is Singapore's first female president.

With an annual salary of $809,673, the president of Iraq, Abdul Latif Rashid, ranks second among the world's presidents in terms of salary.
Following the 2022 Iraqi presidential election, he was chosen as the country's ninth president. Before that, he served as Nouri al-Minister Maliki's administration of Water Resources.
The Iraqi Transitional Government and the Iraqi Interim Government both employed him in the same capacity before that.

John Lee Ka- Chiu, the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, earns $568,400 per year, making him one of the highest-paid presidents in the world.
Lee was chosen as the administration's Chief Executive in July 2022 since he was the only candidate in the 2022 Hong Kong Chief Executive election who had received China's approval.
The Chinese government chose him to better reunite Hong Kong with the mainland.

Alain Berset, the president of Switzerland, is sixth among the highest-paid presidents in the world with a yearly salary of $507,000.
In 2013, the Federal Assembly re-elected Berset, who had previously presided over the Swiss Confederation in 2018, to that position.
He has led the Federal Department of Home Affairs since taking office and has been a member of the Swiss Federal Council since 2012.

Michael D. Higgins is the President of Ireland and one of the highest-paid presidents in the world, earning $401,000 a year.
Since 2011, he has served as the republic's ninth president. Michael entered politics as a member of the Labour Party, first as a senator from 1973 to 1977, then as a Teachta Dála (TD) in 1981, representing the Galway West district from 1981 to 1982 and again from 1987 to 2011.
Between these terms, Higgins served as a senator for the National University in Seanad Éireann from 1983 to 1987.

Biden, perhaps the most powerful president in the world, receives $400,000 each year.

With an annual salary of $378,666, Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen ranks eighth among the world's highest-paid presidents.
From 1994 until 2012, he was a member of the National Council, representing the Green Party, and served as both the party's and its parliamentary group's leader.
Alexander formerly served as an economics professor at the University of Vienna and, after entering politics, was the spokesman for the Austrian Green Party.

Iceland's president, Gudni Thorlacius Jóhannesson, is ninth among the world's highest-paid presidents, earning $317,000 a year.
Gudni, Iceland's sixth president, was elected in 2016 after receiving the most votes in the election.
He was re-elected with 92.2% of the vote in 2020.
Gudni was a professor and historian at the University of Iceland until standing for president in 2016.

Mohamed Ould Ghazouani, President of Mauritania, is the world's tenth highest-paid president, earning $300,000 a year.
He was elected on June 22, 2019, following the presidential election. T
he Ghazouani triumph was billed as the country's first peaceful change of power since independence.
Before his election, Ghazouani was the previous General Director of National Security and Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of Mauritania (2008–2018).
From October 2018 to March 2019, he served as Mauritania's Defense Minister.
