Ten Most Popular Nigerian TV Hosts

When we talk about TV hosts or presenters we cannot ignore Nigerians in this field. Nigeria indeed has TV hosts that are top-notch and very good at this line of work. 

The popularity and prestige which a television show holds mostly depend on the anchor of such TV shows.

This is why television authorities try their possible best to recruit A-list anchors. 

A TV host sets the mood for which a television show will present to its viewers.

Therefore, if a TV host is boring, it will equally affect the television shows that such host anchors. 

Let's take a look at the top ten most popular Nigerian TV hosts who have earned the love and respect of Nigerians and the world in general.

1. Derenle Edun

One of the most well-liked male TV hosts in Nigeria, Denrele Edun has gained international acclaim for his work.

Denrele, who is well-known for his cross-dressing fashion sense and character, began his television career at the tender age of 11 as a presenter/producer on Kiddivision 101, a program on the NTA Network.

He has conducted interviews with celebrities like Beyonce, Akon, Tyler Perry, Lil' Kim, Snoop Dogg, Cuba Gooding, Amerie, and Lloyd throughout his career.

He has also received numerous honours, such as the Dynamix Award for Best Youth TV Personality (2006, 2007, 2008), The Future Award for Best Producer (2007, 2008), and The Best TV Personality at the NEAs in New York (2011).

 

2. Bolanle Olukanni

For her work as the host of the DStv program "Moments with Mo" and Project Fame West Africa, Bolanle Olukanni is well recognised.

Her debut on television was as a co-host of "Moments with Mo." Olukanni co-hosted the show with Mo Abudu, the CEO of EbonyLife TV. 

Sage & Walls, a multi-media production firm established in 2015, is co-founded by Bolanle.

On the show, "On the Carpet with Bolinto," she serves as both host and producer.

In addition to being a fantastic host and one of the most well-known people in Nigeria, Bolanle, who received most of her schooling outside of Nigeria, has also written, directed, and produced a documentary titled "Gods Wives" and several other shows. 

 

3. Uti Nwachukwu

Television host Uti Nwachukwu is well known for co-hosting the program 'Jara'.

The Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) red carpet, one of Nigeria's biggest events, is one of Nwachukwu's most well-known hosting gigs.

He has been the show's host for a total of seven years.

The TV personality has hosted 'Jara' for 11 seasons on Africa Magic.

Additionally, he hosted the red carpet of the eighth AMVCA, the reunion of the popular reality TV series "The RealHousewives of Lagos" on Showmax, and the unveiling of the Tecno Camon 19.

 


4. Toke Makinwa

Toke Makinwa is a television as well as a radio host, YouTuber, business owner, actress, and author.

She is well-known for hosting "Toke Moments," a YouTube vlog series, as well as The Morning Drive on Rhythm 93.7 FM.

One of the top 5 female show hosts in Africa, Makinwa has hosted both her original programs and feature-length programs.

Previously known as Wildchild, he is an MNet Studio 53 presenter as well as the Big Brother Africa host when it was airing. 

He co-hosted the Lagos countdown show with Ariyike Akinbobola and Quest in 2012.

The Lagos countdown show is comparable to those in Times Square, Beijing, Shanghai, and Dubai, and it is the first of its kind in Lagos.

6. Stephanie Coker

Stephanie Coker is a TV presenter, on-air personality, and actress who has been on our screens for many years.

In 2010, she won the MTV Freederm Presenter Competition, which resulted in her appearance in a television commercial.

She was also commissioned by OHTV in the United Kingdom for her documentary "Christmas in Lagos," about young Nigerians.

Although Coker is currently one of Nigeria's most popular TV hosts, she did not begin her hosting career in Nigeria.

She has hosted various TV series in Nigeria, including MTV Base Africa's countdown show "Street Request" and The Voice Nigeria (2016).


7. Osas Ighodaro

Osas Ighodaro, one of Nigeria's most popular female TV hosts, also doubles as an actress and does a good job in both roles.

She is a Nigerian-American actress who was born in New York and is of Nigerian ancestry.

Both the Maltina Dance All reality TV program and the 2014 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards were co-hosted by Ighodaro.

She started a foundation to fight malaria after winning Miss Black USA in 2010.

The stunning actress from the big screen has received numerous awards for her acting prowess, including Best TV Actress of the Year at the 2014 ELOY Awards and Best Actress in a Drama at the 2022 AMVCA for her part in "Rattlesnake: The Ahanna Story."


8. Nancy Isime

Nancy Isime is a Nigerian television personality who has quietly but steadily established a name for herself in the media sector.

Isime is an actress and model in addition to being a presenter.

Her rise to prominence was cemented when she became the host of The Voice Nigeria 2021.

She is also renowned for hosting The Squeeze, a gossip show, and the backstage segments of MTN Project Fame Season 7.

In 2016, she took over as host of the popular HipTV show Trending from Toke Makinwa.

Nancy Isime also co-hosted The Headies Award with Reminisce in 2019, the same year she began her TV show, "The Nancy Isime Show".

She co-hosted The Headies Award in 2020 alongside famed Nigerian comedian Bovi.

 

9. Ebuka Obi-Uchendu

Ebuka is arguably Nigeria's most popular television host.

He is best known for hosting the reality television show Big Brother Naija.

Chukwuebuka Obi-Uchendu, also known simply as Ebuka, is a Nigerian lawyer best recognised for his work as a media personality.

Ebuka is also known for co-hosting The Spot, a TV show on DSTV, with Lamide Akintobi and Zainab Balogun, and anchoring the long-running Rubbin' Minds conversation show on Channels TV.

Ebuka was the host of "Men's Corner," Nigeria's first all-male television talk show.

The media personality garnered multiple award nominations for his excellent efforts as a TV presenter and won a Nigerian Broadcasters Merit Award for "Outstanding TV Presenter of the Year" in 2015.

Also, Net Honors named him the Most Popular Media Personality (Male) in 2021.

 


10. Frank Edoho

Frank Edoho, the host of the TV show "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" is undoubtedly one of Nigeria's most popular TV hosts.

Edoho hosted the famous game show for 13 years (from 2004 to 2017), until stepping down on September 2, 2017.

He announced his departure from the show on Twitter after, according to him, declining the offer made to him.

To the joy of fans across Nigeria, the Kano-born broadcaster returned to the show in February 2022. 

Frank Edoho has also won several prizes including, the Youth Ambassador Award by Fly Networks, Best TV presenter of the year 2006 by City People Magazine Award, and Male TV presenter of the year 2008 by Nigeria Kids Choice Award.
