Steve Chen, Chad Hurley, and Jawed Karim founded YouTube, an online video-sharing social media platform, in 2005. It is the world's second most frequented website, with 14.3 billion monthly visitors. 

YouTube has 2.49 billion monthly active users. The most common reasons consumers visit YouTube are for entertainment or education.

3. WhatsApp

Monthly active users: 2 billion 
Country: United States of America 

WhatsApp is a worldwide instant messaging and voice-over-IP platform. Users can communicate text messages, phone conversations, video calls, pictures, documents, locations, and videos using the social network app. WhatsApp has 2 billion monthly active users and is expected to reach 3 billion by 2027.

WhatsApp generates revenue through its business app and WhatsApp Pay, which is comparable to PayPal. WhatsApp's yearly revenue in 2021 was $8.7 billion.

TikTok beat Google as the most popular website on the internet in 2021. 

7. Facebook Messenger

Facebook Messenger is an instant messaging social platform developed by Meta Platforms, the company that invented Facebook and owns WhatsApp and Instagram. 

Although it began as a Facebook Chat in 2008, it was later redesigned as a social platform in 2011. It presently generates no income for Meta, but it does attract new users. 


8. LinkedIn

Monthly active users: 930 million 
Country: United States of America 

LinkedIn has developed from a simple job search engine and résumé site to a professional networking platform where industry professionals share content, network, and promote their brand, with around 930 million monthly active members. 

It has also evolved into a venue for companies to build thought leadership in their respective industries and attract top talent.

9. Telegram

Telegram is a free chat service that works across multiple platforms and has no media size restrictions.
