Tension As Rainfall Ravages Ekiti Communities

Following a torrential rainfall that lasted for more than six hours on Sunday night, several inhabitants of some towns in Ado Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti State, have been forced to flee their homes.

The victims of the flooding also lost important property in places like Temidire Eminrin, an Ado Ekiti suburb along Federal Polytechnic Road, Ilupeju Avenue, Oshodi, Ureje, and Ita Eku.

The downpour it was reported began around 10 pm on Sunday and it ended around 3:22 am on Monday.

The situation got worse for the residents of Temidire Emirin village on Monday when water from the Ureje River overflowed the banks, making it impossible for students, employees, and artisans to go to their places of employment.

Eyewitnesses revealed that it was around 12:30 am that the water on the flooded bridge begin to recede, allowing locals access to the highway leading to the Ado-ABUAD-Ijan-Ekiti metropolis.

According to Jude Ajulo, a resident of the Temidire Emirin village and a flood victim, they were inside sleeping when the water suddenly flooded into their home at around two in the morning and flooded their property.

Ajulo disclosed that occupants of a three-bedroom bungalow had to flee as the water level was rising and endangering their lives.

Olajide Borode, the General Manager of the Ekiti State Emergency Management Agency, stated that the agency has begun visitation to the impacted districts to gather firsthand information about the severity of the flood damage.
