Tension mounts as police prevent EFCC operatives from arrest

Police officers assigned to Alhaji Yahaya Bello have blocked armed Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) agents from apprehending the former Kogi State Governor.

The clash between EFCC agents and police officers took place at Bello's apartment in Wuse Zone 4, Abuja, where the EFCC had launched a siege in an attempt to capture him on corruption accusations.

Supporters of Bello, along with police officers, gathered at the home to protest the EFCC's arrest attempt. The scenario worsened as tensions between the two law enforcement organisations grew.

Bello is under investigation by the EFCC for alleged misuse of public monies worth billions of Naira.

Despite securing an interim injunction prohibiting the EFCC from taking any action against him until the outcome of a substantive originating motion to vindicate his fundamental rights, the anti-graft body has insisted on arrest.

The EFCC has filed an appeal of the interim injunction, which attempted to protect Bello from incarceration, prosecution, or persecution while legal processes were continuing.

The agency claims that the trial court lacked jurisdiction and that any order made by a court without authority is null and invalid.
