The dumping of 370 destitute in Ilesha by Lagos govt

The dumping of 370 destitute in Ilesha by Lagos govt

By Akin Adeyi

It is over Seventy- Two hours now that the Lagos State Government in its wisdom and according to reports found Osun as the most suitable place for its dumping of some 370 terrible nuisances and destitute. The state alleged that the deportees have been terrorizing also disturbing the peace and beauty of Lagos state.

According to eyewitness accounts which has also been confirmed by the  Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke; over four hundred youths in several luxury buses that were later confirmed as coming from Lagos have been surreptitiously dropped at Ilesa-Akure Express junction, Breweries; Ilesa – Ibodi – Iginla to Ife Express junction; Osu Alakara Express junction; Imelu Express junction; and Iperindo Express junction.

Report has it that the youths were allegedly rounded up from Ajah, TBS and Island areas of Lagos state and they were thereafter gathered inside an uncompleted building at the Makoko police station before moving them to a forest in Ilesha town in Osun State.

Adeleke, speaking through his Spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed on Monday, said in a statement that he confirmed the report through an investigation team set up to confirm the veracity of the story.

Akoni Oodua, to demean this development is to call it a dirty slap on the faces of Osun people. This is worse than a thousand slaps . It can only compare to deadly blows.  The Lagos state government has given the entire people of Osun shit ( if i can borrow Fela’s words)

To worsen this was when Governor Babajide Sanwolu of Lagos initially denied any knowledge and involvement in the ugly incident. Sanwolu when he was confronted by Adeleke said he didn’t know a thing about it. However, after several hours the cleverer Lagos Boy governor had to own up to the fact that his government did it.

Yes, he owned up but without no apology nor care for whose ox may be gored. He even said it was the beginning of his government effort to sanitize Lagos.

Since then some people including my humble self have been waiting to see how our own governor will respond further to this. We wanted to see how he will manage the challenging situation.

People have been wondering on the constitutionality of Lagos State government action in this case. What is the position of the Nigeria’s constitution on this type of issue. Can a Nigerian be deported or  barred from another state in Nigeria?

Should there not be advance information to Osun government also collaborative effort between the two states if at all this must happen?

By the way, who profiled the deportees to show whole 370 out of over 400 actually belong to Osun State and Ilesha in particular.
These and many questions are begging answers. But this may not even be the major concern of this write up.

My worry is in how some three hundred and seventy dangerous elements have been secretly dumped in the domain of a governor by his colleague governor and without no warning or official collaboration. The dastardly acts was carried out during the weekend that the dumping governor was aware that his recipient colleague governor was somewhere in the same Lagos state clubbing and partying away his time.

Sanwolu, a thorough bred “Lagos boy” probably did his homework very well before the sting operation. He saw in the Osun governor the needed carelessness and porous roads to achieving his aims and he capitalized on it. Hence his choice of Osun for the dumping operation. The Lagos governor probably knows his Osun counterpart very well. He knew him as someone who never guide his rears especially during his regular weekend visits to Lagos for clubbing and owambe party activities.

Sanwolu dare not try such with other governors of the southwest. He recognizes and respect them very well. He couldn’t have given them this type of shit. No. They will never take it. Dapo Abiodun we know is firmly in-charge of his state. The same for Seyi Makinde and Oyebamiji. Not even the newly appointed Ayedatiwa of Ondo state can be so dared by Sanwolu . These governors will give anyone who tries this with them a bloody nose. They have their functional security architecture in Amotekun and other initiatives. So nobody will contemplate them for such dirty blows.

However, in this matter  Mr Sanwolu’s agutan probably saw Ademola’s Belau inside out. Hence,  the snatch of the yam in his hands.

Sanwolu probably heard it when Governor Adeleke who is a supposed security officer of his state went to town at some months ago to inform that the state had no functional security architecture in place.

Akoni Oodua Ayeniromo….remember i criticized and condemned the governor for the statement. This incident appear as the first exploitation of that sensitive information about the poor state of our state’s security which the governor carelessly gave out.

That no arm of security whether conventional or local intercepted the operation is a huge shame on all the managers of our security in the state. It can only mean the people of Osun have been on autopilot especially and as far as their security may be concerned. This is a huge indictment and confirmation that the people of Osun have been sleeping on a keg of gun powder.

And as if this was not enough, up till as we speak….at this three whole days after this incident the poor arrangement and semblance of government that Osun has in place for government has not traced or recovered just one yes, i mean one of the deadly elements that the Lagos state dumped on us. All of them, 370 digbolugis and ehannas have successfully melted into the midst of the Ijesha people where, as God will have it Mr Mayowa Adejoorin who is the state commissioner for environment hails from.

Akoni Oodua Ayeniromo…..this so shameful especially to this “One-Week-One -Embarrassment” administration of Adeleke in Osun.
