The First GMC Hummer Electric Pickup Sold At $2.5 Million

The First GMC Hummer Electric Pickup Sold At $2.5 Million

The very first 2022 GMC Hummer EV pickup hasn't even been built yet, but it is already sold for $2.5 million.

The vehicle was auctioned at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale event which took place recently in Scottsdale, Arizona, with the proceeds going to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, a nonprofit that honors firefighter Stephen Siller, who died on Sept. 11, 2001. The group helps injured military and first responders and the families of those who died in the line of duty.

The buyer — a woman whose name is not public, according to a General Motors spokeswoman —will receive the vehicle with VIN 001 when it rolls off the assembly line at Factory ZERO in Detroit and Hamtramck later this year.

“We are thrilled with the auction results and what the proceeds will mean for the Tunnel to Towers Foundation,” said Duncan Aldred, vice president of Buick and GMC. “We also recognize the support of Barrett-Jackson for this special occasion, which made it a 100-percent charitable endeavor."

Despite the Hummer going for $2.5 million, it wasn't the most expensive car to cross the block. That honor goes to a 1966 Shelby Cobra 427 Super Snake that was once owned by Carroll Shelby himself. It sold for $5.5 million, the same price it sold for back in 2007.

In October of last year, General Motors officially launched its GMC Hummer EV, an all-electric “super-truck” with up to 350 miles of range and a starting price of $80,000.

The vehicle impressed many with a ton of features and decent range for an electric vehicle of this size enabled by GM’s new Ultium battery and drivetrain technology.

While the very first 2022 GMC EV pickup vehicle has already sold at auction sporting a super price tag, the remaining Edition 1 models sold out within an hour for a slightly more modest starting price of $112,595.

They plan to have the first deliveries by the end of the year, but they are starting with a higher-end version of the truck, the Edition 1, with a limited number of trucks available.

Also auctioned Saturday was the 2021 Ford Bronco 2-Door VIN 001 for $1.075 million. That money will go to the National Forest Foundation and Outward Bound, Barrett-Jackson said in a news release.
