The 15th Headies Award flop was not at all mitigated by moving the biggest music award in Nigeria to Atlanta and employing the service of Emmy-nominated actor Anthony Anderson as co-host.
Anderson's African jokes were cringe-worthy and not amusing as he appeared to have overstepped his boundaries.
However, shout out to our very own Osas Ighodaro for holding the stage down.
The technical failures were all pretty obvious for everyone to observe, and the red carpet was partially a mess and a little bit chaotic as well.
We can't get beyond the reality that Hip TV's coverage of what was meant to be Nigeria's greatest music awards show has remained subpar as many social media users have expected.
At regular intervals, the screen would go black for a few seconds.
It got as bad as the screen going blank for minutes!
Also, the sound quality was just as poor as its visual counterpart. It kept breaking at intervals too.
Not to forget, the show wrapped up after Anderson complained that he was tired and wanted to go home.
Awards categories such as Artist of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Best Male Artist, Best Female Artist, Best Vocal Performance (Male) e.t.c. were left unannounced.
This means that viewers have to wait for the announcement of the unannounced categories via Headies/Hip TV social media posts.
The summary of this is that Headies is a joke, Hip TV is a bigger joke and despite how much the event was planned (or unplanned) the disorganisation was beyond obvious and the embarrassment was amplified on a global scale.
They clearly need to go back to the drawing table because the yearly flop is making the awards ceremony lose its prestige.
