'The Last Straw': A Nollywood Short Film Everyone Needs To S

...Despite its several flaws, Kemistrydiva production's movie (directed by Chris Iheuwa) makes a strong statement on the incessant cases of police brutality in the country

The #EndSARS protests and the Lekki shootings are two major incidents that will be classified among the nation's darkest moments. Nigerians are yet to recover from it and building on that, Kemistrydiva Productions decided to make a short film, tackling the security operatives that have gone against the very oath they swore.

The Last Straw has a simple plot; barely a few days after being the victim of police brutality, a man and his wife must live with what they never envisioned when the same group of erring force men launches a brutal attack on their son. It may not have the big names that are present in Nollywood but its subject matter alone and the way it is depicted makes it worth seeing.

The actors portraying the corrupt security officers deserve the highest praise as their scenes prove to be the highlight of the film. There are a few lapses here and there and it has one or two transition issues but in all, it's a commendable effort with impressive execution.

The producers had to halt its slated November release last year so as not to add to the tension caused by the #EndSARS protests. It was seen by a select few who were part of the launch/premiere in the same November of last year.

Now made available online via YouTube, it is billed as a memorial and is dedicated to those who lost their lives at the hands of the security operatives. It stars Frank DongaKemi AdekomiAlex OshoChris Iheuwa, James JibunmaEmmanuel IlemobayoJide OgunlanaDivine Anaba, and Moses Ajayi.
