The Oratory: Salesians Organises Summer Activities For Children
The Salesians of Don Bosco, an international religious organisation of the Catholic Church is set to organise summer activities for over 180 children in Ojodu, Lagos.
The Coordinator, Don Bosco Child Protection Centre, Father Linus Nkemjinaka, made this known at a Press Conference on The Oratory movie in support of the Salesians of Saint John Bosco Child Protection Centre for Street Children.
“As we all know, the mandate of the Don Bosco Child Protection Centre is to focus on the plights of street children and help them rediscover their dreams and aspirations.
“We have continuously done this and we are putting up summer activities for over 180 children this month. At the Child Protection Centre, we take kids off the streets and rehabilitate them.
“We don’t just rehabilitate, we reintegrate and also follow up. They are humans and we ensure they are well catered for also.”
The Don Bosco Child Protection Centre, through partnerships with Lagos State Government, NAPTIP and other relevant government agencies, also raise awareness about the menace of illegal migrations.
Recently, the Salesians showcased the plight of street kids through a movie, ‘The Oratory’.
The movie depicts the real-life story of a catholic priest who was known for helping the poor and abandoned children of Turin.
The movie, which was shot at various locations in Rome, Atlanta, Lagos and Turin, was directed by Obi Emelonye, an award-winning director, and produced by Rev. Fr. Cyril Odia, a Nigerian Salesian priest with Enyinna Nwigew as the lead actor.
