CD Projekt has officially launched its free Pokémon Go-like augmented reality mobile game, The Witcher: Monster Slayer.

The Pokémon Go-like developed by the Spokko studio, owned by CD Projekt uses location-based AR to track players’ location in the real world and allow them to find monsters taken from The Wizard universe.

In Pokemon go, gamers will actually be defeating these monsters rather than capturing them, as the game title suggests. However, CD PR said that more than 100 creatures “both old and new” will appear in total.

According to the game’s website, The Witcher monster series allows the player to explore the world around you and fight menacing virtual monsters in AR and make the player feel like an elite monster slayer. The game was first announced in August 2020.

"Story-driven quests that propel you through epic adventures inspired by the Witcher series, taking you deep into the heart of what it means to be an elite monster slayer.”

The player will need to “track” monsters in the real world based on location, time of day, and weather conditions. Also, the player can also be equipped with new weapons and armor and prepare potions to be better prepared before a fight.

By logging in to the game no later than July 28th, 11:59 PM CEST, Android and iOS users will find the Kaer Morhen Steel Sword in their inventory. This weapon increases the number of Experience Points gained from killing monsters by 10%, and will surely aid new witchers beginning their journey on the Path.

The Witcher: Monster Slayer is available for free on the Apple App Store and Google Play. However, it should be noted that some users are experiencing technical issues on launch day, which CD PR says it is working to fix.
