Reports across the media that the headquarters of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) was gutted by fire has been dismissed by the body as untrue.
WAEC debunked the reports in a statement issued by Head of Public Affairs, WAEC Nigeria, Demianus Ojijeogu, on Thursday, stating that there had been no fire outbreak at the body's headquarters in Abuja or at any of its other offices in the country.
Ojijeogu said that the story was spread by "mischief makers" who are out to "misinform, mislead, and confuse" the public.

The statement read, “We hereby categorically state that there was no fire incident at WAEC headquarters or any WAEC offices in Nigeria, for that matter.
“The publication is false and it is the handiwork of mischief-makers who are out to misinform, mislead and confuse the candidates and members of the general public.
“We wish to reassure all candidates, other stakeholders and members of the general public that all our security materials are safe and intact."
