Three arrested in Edo for attempting to kill girl for money

The Edo State Police Command has detained three individuals for allegedly attempting to assassinate Esther Alu, a 23-year-old female from Benin City, for ritual purposes.

Funsho Adegboye, the State Commissioner of Police, told reporters in Benin City that the suspects were apprehended at a motel on Benin/Sapele Road.

According to him, on June 22, 2024, at around 5:19 p.m., the Managing Director of Liberty Hill Hotel, located on Benin/Sapele Road, reported that a girl was sobbing in one of the hotel rooms while someone was loudly reciting an incantation.

After receiving the complaint, members of the Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Crime Unit rushed to the hotel and rescued the victim.

He identified the three suspects as Osarobo Osaretin (25) Eboigbodin Jude (24), and Maxwell Osagie (24). He said charms of different types were recovered from the suspects.

Meanwhile, Ogun State Police Command agents have detained a man for reportedly excavating and beheading a body in the state's Car Wash area for ritualistic purposes.

In a phone interview with the Punch correspondent on Tuesday, the command's public relations officer, Omolola Odutola, said that Lekan Akinyemi, the suspect, was taken into custody on Monday following a resident's report to the police of suspicious activity near his father's grave.

The inhabitant, Nojeem Balogun, revealed that when he looked at his father's tomb, he saw that his father's corpse had been severed in the head.

Odutola revealed that Adatan Division agents swiftly took action and detained Akinyemi after learning of the situation.

She said, “Nojeem Balogun, resizing around Iyana Cele Car Wash, Abeokuta, visited the police station and reported that on June 23, 2024, at about 0800hrs, one of his siblings alerted him about unusual activities at their late father’s grave in Isale Itoko, Abeokuta.

“Upon inspection, he found that their father’s head had been removed by an unidentified individual or group. Further inquiries led to the identification of Lekan Akinyemi who was caught red-handed as the culprit who dug up the grave and severed the head.

“Lekan Akinyemi was caught in the act and the case will be handed over to the Anti-Robbery unit for investigation before transferring it to the State CID.”
