Tiger Woods Undergoes Surgery Over Multiple Fractures After

Golf legend Tiger Woods has undergone surgery after his car accident on Tuesday as he suffered multiple fractures.

Woods was rushed to the hospital after he was removed from the wreckage by the local fire department. He was reported to be conscious and responsive.

Giving an update on the sportsman, the Chief Medical Officer of Harbor-UCLA Medical Center (where Woods is being treated) Anish Mahajan revealed that there were "open fractures affecting both the upper and lower sections of the right tibia and fibula bones."

The accident had occurred shortly after 7 am pacific time and Woods was driving. There were no passengers with him and no other vehicles were involved in the accident.

Woods had lost control of the car at high speed, leading to it somersaulting several times. He is now awake, responsive, and recovering in his hospital room, according to a statement on the sportsman's Twitter page.

Speaking on Woods' condition on Twitter, Mahajan said, "Open fractures affecting both the upper and lower portions of the right tibia and fibula bones were stabilized by inserting a rod into the tibia."

"Additional injuries to the bones of the foot and ankle were stabilized with a combination of screws and pins. Trauma to the muscle and soft tissue of the leg required surgical release of the covering of the muscles to relieve pressure due to swelling."

 

Widely regarded as one of the greatest golfers of all time, Tiger Woods is one of the most popular athletes of all time. He has held numerous golf records and has been elected to the World Gold Hall of Fame.

He is the only player to have consecutively won all four major championships open to professionals, having achieved the record 2000-2001 seasons.
