TikTok May Be Working On Music Streaming Service

TikTok has aided users in discovering both contemporary and historical musical performers, and it may soon launch a music streaming service of its own.

According to Insider, Parent ByteDance has submitted a trademark application to the USPTO for "TikTok Music."

Users of the service would be able to "buy, play, share, download music, songs, albums, and lyrics... live stream audio and video... edit and upload images as the cover of playlists... [and] comment on music, songs, and albums."

Resso, a music streaming service offered by ByteDance, is now only accessible in Brazil, Indonesia, and India.

Some of the elements stated in the trademark filing such as playlists, song-sharing, and community engagement are present in that application.

Additionally, as Insider points out, TikTok sends users in Brazil to Resso's full song.

The trademark application was initially filed in Australia and then on May 9th in the US.

It is unclear if it plans to base such a service on Resso but it must show that it will actually use the trademark before registering for it in the US, so Insider claims that it's not just a placeholder.

Other potential use cases were listed by the business as "live streaming audio and video interactive media content in the sphere of entertainment, fashion, sports, and current affairs."
