There are reports that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is mulling the formation of security agencies for the solid mineral and marine commercial sectors.

On Saturday, Bayo Onanuga, the President's Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, made this known via a statement.

According to Onanuga, Tinubu outlined his ideas to restructure Nigeria's security architecture during a meeting with APC governors in Abuja on Friday.

He disclosed that the President mentioned three new police formations to supplement the existing police.

Tinubu stated that the deployment of forest guards, together with greater training, contemporary technical gadgets, and firearms, was being considered to strengthen security, and that special police would also protect the solid mineral and marine economic sectors.

“We have a big marine economy, and I do not see why we should not have the marine police. We will have the same in solid minerals to keep the scavengers away. I am ready to invest in security”.

Onanuga went further to say that Tinubu also revealed his plans to stock the nation’s mineral resources in reserve to the governors.

“We will buy our own minerals and keep them in reserves, especially gold, which will be effective in our foreign exchange reserve.”
