Nigeria's President-elect Bola Tinubu has been conferred the nation's highest honour. the Grand Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (GCFR).

Tinubu was bestowed the recognition on Thursday alongside the Vice President-elect, Kashim Shettima, who was decorated with the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON) title.

The investiture ceremony was held in Aso Villa in Abuja ahead of the inauguration on May 29.

While giving his acceptance speech, Tinubu stated that he understands the magnitude of the honour and pledged not to disappoint Nigerians.

“I understand the magnitude of the honour conferred on me today and the task ahead. Nigerians deserve no less.

“You (Buhari) have charted the course and I shall not disappoint you,” he said.

Meanwhile, AllNews Nigeria reported earlier that the Department of State Services (DSS) has alerted citizens on plans to disrupt the programme of events on May 29, which will see Tinubu sworn in as the president.

DSS Spokesman, Dr Peter Afunaya, who disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, warned that it would not allow anyone to scuttle the planned event.

US President Joe Biden's delegation will be present at the swearing-in alongside world leaders and heads of state

Worthy of note are reports circulating that President Muhammadu Buhari has been advised to declare Friday a public holiday so as to stall the verdict of the Supreme Court in the case filed by PDP seeking the disqualification of Tinubu and Shettima.

Buhari has been urged by the main opposition party to address the allegations as silence could lead to a widespread crisis.
