Tobi Amusan
The World Athletics has ratified Tobi Amusan's World 100m hurdles record at Oregon's 2022 World Athletics Championships in the United States.
Amusan set the record of 12. 12 seconds in the 100m hurdles semi-final to beat the previous record of 12.20 seconds set by Kendra Harrison in 2016.
World Athletics confirmed on their website that Tobi Amusan's record has been ratified alongside Mondo Duplantis and Sydney Mclaughlin's world records.
“The world records set by Tobi Amusan, Mondo Duplantis, and Sydney McLaughlin at the World Athletics Championships Oregon22 have been ratified.
“Amusan’s 12.12 in the women’s 100m hurdles semi-finals, Duplantis’s 6.21m in the men’s pole vault final, and McLaughlin’s 50.68 in the women’s 400m hurdles final are all now officially in the record books, as is the world U20 mark of 9.94 set by Letsile Tebogo in the men’s 100m heats.”
Amusan also followed up with a wind-assisted 12.06 to win the 100m hurdles final.
The 25-year-old became the first Nigerian to emerge World Champion in the history of the World Athletics Championships.
Amusan was recently honoured with the Order of the Niger (OON) by President Muhammadu Buhari for her sterling performances for Nigeria.
