Tonali's Legal Team In Talks With Italian Authorities Over 10-Month Ban

Tonali's Legal Team In Talks With Italian Authorities Over 1

Sandro Tonali's legal team are in talks with Italian authorities over a 10-month ban after a gambling probe.

The Newcastle midfielder admitted to placing bets on matches in which he played, albeit his agent Giuseppe Riso had claimed the player was living with a "gambling addiction."

He has been assisting the Italian Prosecutor's Office and Italian Football Federation (FIGC) in their investigation, and it is understood that the 23-year-old could face up to a three-year suspension under FIFA rules if he fails to cooperate with them.

However, a plea bargain is understood to be worked on by his legal team, which would see Tonali miss the rest of the Premier League season and Euro 2024, should Italy qualify.

In the meantime, Tonali will be available to play for Newcastle in their Champions League game against Borussia Dortmund at St James' Park on Wednesday, having trained with his team-mates on Tuesday.
