Top 10 Biggest Animals In The World

Top 10 Biggest Animals In The World

From tiny to 30-metre-long blue whales, animals come in a wide variety of sizes and shapes

There is no denying that some animals are enormous in contrast to other members of their class, regardless of how you measure them—weight, height, or length.

Below is a list of the top 10 biggest animals in the world. Our listing goes from descending to ascending order.

10. Goliath Beetle

The world's heaviest insect known as the Goliath Beetle is found in the underbrush of tropical forests in Africa.

They can reach lengths of 4.5 inches (11.5cm), weigh up to 3.5 ounces (100g) and have a brown/black/white colouration.

9. Chinese Salamander

The Chinese Giant Salamander, which can grow to be 6 feet (1.8 meters) long and weigh up to 132 pounds (60 kilograms) is the largest amphibian currently living.

They are referred to as living fossils since they have not changed much from their forebears.

Despite their intriguing characteristics, they are rare and endangered in the wild.

8. Ostrich

The Ostrich is the largest living bird; it stands 9 feet (2.7 m) tall, weighs 344 pounds (156 kg), and has the widest eyes of any bird, measuring 1.9 inches (5 cm).

They don't have teeth, but they can make water inside of them and obtain the rest from the plants they consume, so they can go without water for days.

7. Saltwater Crocodile

The Saltwater Crocodile, the largest living reptile, averages 17 feet (5.2 meters) in length but can grow to 21 feet (6.3 meters) and weigh up to 1,000 pounds (453 kg).

They are extensively dispersed in brackish and saltwater regions in sections of India, Asia, and Australia.

They eat anything they can get their teeth into, including sharks if given the chance.

6. Brown Bear

Both brown bears and polar bears share the title of the largest living terrestrial carnivore.

They have earned their title as the biggest by weighing a whopping 907 kg (1 ton) and standing on their hind legs as high as 10 ft (3m).

While Brown Bears can be seen in the forests and mountains of North America, Europe, and Asia, you must travel farther north to the Arctic Circle to see Polar Bears, which spend part of their time in the water and on the ice and primarily eat seals.

5. Whale Shark

Going underwater, the 40 ft (12m) long Whale Shark is the biggest fish still alive.

They are an amazing sight, weighing up to 24 US tons (22 tonnes) but despite their size, they primarily eat small plankton.

Whale sharks are found in tropical oceans all around the world, however, some regions target them because they are thought to be vulnerable.

4. Giraffe

The Giraffe is the tallest living creature on Earth, being 19 feet (5.8 meters) tall, with a neck that is 6 feet (1.8 meters) in height.

They thrive in the grasslands of East Africa, where they mostly eat vegetation that is high above the ground. To do this, they use their long, prehensile tongues to pry leaves and new shoots from trees.

After a 15-month gestation period, babies are already 2 m tall when they are born.

3. African Elephant

The largest living land animal is the African Elephant which can weigh up to 6,350 kg (7 tons); they typically grow to 35 ft (10.6 m) from trunk to tail and have a shoulder height of 13 ft (4.2 m).

There are at least two species, the savanna elephant and the forest elephant, and they are currently cited as venerable in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.

2. Colossal Squid

The size of the colossal squid is sometimes overstated, with internet memes claiming they can grow to be up to 90 feet (27 meters) long or even 60 feet (18 meters) long!

The longest squid known to science was 45 feet (14 meters) long. Their 10-inch (25-cm) wide eyes are the biggest in the animal kingdom.

1. Blue Whale

The Blue whale is the largest animal of all time, reaching a weight of about 198 US tons (180 tonnes) and a length of 98 ft (30 m).

Their tongues alone can weigh as much as an elephant and their hearts as much as a car, yet they survive by eating a diet rich in tiny plankton.
