Top 10 Private Universities In Nigeria

The top 10 best private universities in Nigeria will be covered in this article.

1. Covenant University 

One of the top ten private universities in Nigeria is Covenant University. It is situated in the Ogun State town of Canaanland.

Covenant University was founded on October 21, 2002, and it is affiliated with the Living Faith Church.

Bishop David Oyedepo, who is also the university's chancellor, established the Christian-only private university.

The University has a student population estimated to be about 15,000 and also a staff strength of 1,000. 

2. Babcock University 

Another institution on our list of the top 10 private universities in Nigeria is Babcock University.

It was founded in Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State, Nigeria, in April 1999.

Babcock University is a Christian private university, just like Covenant University. The Nigerian Seventh-day Adventist Church founded it.

The University has a student population of more than 10,000 and has nine schools and one college; School of Agriculture and Industrial Technology, School of Basic and Applied Science, School of Education and Humanities, Babcock Business School, School of Computing and Engineering, School of Public and Applied Health, School of Post-graduate Studies, School of Law and Security Studies, College of Health and Medical Sciences.

3. Bowen University

Bowen University ranks third in this list and is owned and operated by The Nigerian Baptist Convention.

The institution is located in Iwo, Osun State Nigeria. 

It boasts some of the best lecturers in the country, having a staff population of 5,000 and also a student capacity of 20,000.

Bowen University has five faculties namely the College of Health Sciences, Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Science and Education, Faculty of Social and Management Sciences, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Humanities

4. Redeemer's University Nigeria 

Pastor Enoch Adeboye of the Redeemed Christian Church of God established and now serves as the chancellor of Redeemer's University Nigeria (RUN).

In the area of infectious disease genomics, Redeemer's University Nigeria is renowned and esteemed. 

In Nigeria and Sierra Leone, this university developed the initial reliable Ebola diagnosis when it discovered two rhabdoviruses found in Ekpoma, Nigeria. 

It offers tools and instruction needed for illness diagnosis, sequencing, and bioinformatics. 

The University has a student population of 2,000 and runs a college system of three colleges, which are the College of Management Science, College of Humanities, and College of Natural Science.

5. Joseph Ayo Babalola University

One of the top ten private universities in Nigeria is Joseph Ayo Babalola University.

It is situated in Osun State, Nigeria, halfway between Ipo Arakeji and Ikeji-Arakeji.

The Christ Apostolic Church owns and operates Joseph Ayo Babalola University, which bears the name of its spiritual founder, Joseph Babalola.

The university has about 4,000 students and they have up to seven faculties in the university which include Natural Sciences and Social Sciences, Management Sciences, Humanities, Law, Agricultural Sciences, and Environmental Sciences. 

6. The American University of Nigeria

Atiku Abubakar founded the American University of Nigeria in 2004.

The university has three schools which are the School of Information Technology, the School of Arts and Sciences, the School of Business and Entrepreneurship.

7. Igbinedion University

It is the first private university in Nigeria and was founded in 1999 and is among the top 10 private universities in Nigeria.

Popular Benin Chief Sir Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion established Igbinedion University and it is located in the Edo State town of Okada in the Ovia North-East Local Government Area.

The University has a student capacity of 5,000 and is also the first Private University to produce medical doctors in Sub-Saharan Africa, the University offers courses in Law, Engineering, Arts and Social Science, Medicine, Business and Management Studies, Pharmacy, Medicine, Natural and Applied Sciences.

8. Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD) 

The famous Nigerian attorney Afe Babalola founded this university in 2009. It is located in the Ekiti State town of Ado-Ekiti.

It has a teaching hospital for its medical students, demonstrating how well-equipped it is.

It operates a college system comprising the following: College of Engineering, College of Social Management, College of Medicine and Health Sciences, and College of Law.

9. Bells University of Technology 

Bells University of Technology, formerly known as Bellstech, is the first private technological institution

It was established in Ogun State in 2004 but didn't have an operating permit until June 9, 2005.

Bells University of Technology currently has a College of Engineering and Environmental Sciences, College of Natural and Applied Sciences, and College of Management Sciences.

10. Landmark University 

Another top private university in Nigeria is Landmark University which was founded by The World Mission Agency.

Bishop David Oyedepo established the Christian missionary organization known as WMA.

Landmark University is the tenth institution on the list and is located in Omu-Aran, Kwara State.
