Although most kings in Nigeria are known for their ceremonial functions and presiding over their kingdom's affairs, most of these kings are wealthy and live luxurious lifestyles.

These luxurious lifestyles are mostly funded by taxes paid to the kingdom by the residents of these kingdoms.

However, the taxes paid to the kingdom by residents do not fund the entirety of these kings' lifestyles, most of these traditional leaders are also known to be business moguls thriving in their businesses.

In descending to ascending order, below are the top 10 richest kings in Nigeria in the year 2022.

10. Ogiame Atuwatse III ($5 Million Net Worth)

Ogiame Atuwatse III is the paramount ruler of the Kingdom of Warri, and the 21st Olu of Warri.

He was born Utieyinoritsetsola Emiko on April 2, 1984, and is also known as Tsola Emiko. His parents are Olu Atuwatse II, the 19th Olu of Warri and Gladys Durorike Emiko in Warri.

He is also a descendant of Olu Akengbuwa and is estimated to be worth $5 million.

9. Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo III ($5 Million Net Worth)

Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo III (born 14 September 1943) is the current Alake of Egba, a clan in Abeokuta, Nigeria. He has ruled since August 2, 2005.

He is estimated to be worth $5 million.

He joined the army in 1969 and attended the Command and Staff College, Jaji from September 1978 to August 1979.

He eventually became a Principal Staff Officer to Major-General Tunde Idiagbon, the Chief of Staff at the Supreme Headquarters, Dodan Barracks, from January 1984 to September 1985. He retired from the army as a Colonel.

8. Benjamin Ikenchuku Keagborekuzi ($10 Million Net Worth)

Benjamin Keagborekuzi Ikenchuku is the Dein of the Delta State town of Agbor kingdom.

In the 1980 edition of the Guinness Book of World Records, he was listed as the world's youngest crowned monarch. 

He is ranked seventh among the wealthiest kings in Nigeria in 2022 with an estimated net worth of $10 million.

In 1979 when Benjamin was only two years old, his father unexpectedly passed away. He travelled to the UK in 1981, where he lived for the first 20 years of his life. 

Until 2001, when he returned to assume control of the throne, a regent ruled the kingdom in his place.

7. Aminu Ado Bayero ($20 Million Net Worth)

Aminu Ado Bayero, the 15th Emir of Kano, is the current king of Kano State.

On March 9, 2020, his nephew Muhammad Sanusi II was removed from power by Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

He is one of the richest kings in Nigeria in 2022 with an estimated net worth of $20 million.

Ado Bayero, Kano's longest-serving emir, was Bayero's father and he was born on July 1, 1961.

His father appointed him Dan Majen Kano and district head of Dala in 1990. In October of that same year, he was promoted to Dan Buram Kano.

He was also the Kano Emirate Durbar Committee's Chairman.

He has served in this position since May 2003, when he succeeded Oba Adeyinka Oyekan.

After high school he served for 32 years in the Nigeria Police Force, entering the force in 1970.

He served in various capacities, was promoted to assistant inspector-general of Police in 1999, and was active until his retirement in 2002.

He was crowned in October 2016 as the traditional king of the Benin people in Edo State, Nigeria.

Like many of his predecessors, he demanded the British Empire return to his people the spiritually and historically significant Benin Bronzes that had been taken in 1897.

Between 1981 and 1982, he was employed by the UN before becoming the Oba of Benin.

Adeyeye ascended to the throne in 2015 succeeding the deceased Oba Okunade Sijuwade who was the 50th Ooni of Ife.

He is reported to be worth $70 million but this cannot be independently verified.

He owns a Rolls-Royce Phantom model year 2011, 2 Bentleys and a Mercedes Benz S550.

He is regarded as the most influential traditional leader in northern Nigeria and the Sultan of the Sokoto Caliphate, the spiritual head of Nigerian Muslims.

Sa’adu Abubakar was born on August 24, 1956, and he is the youngest son of the 17th Sultan, Sir Siddiq Abubakar III, who held the Sultanate for over fifty years.

After the passing of his brother Muhammadu Maccido on ADC Airlines Flight 53 in November 2006, he ascended the throne.

Obateru is also the owner of Obat Oil, one of the biggest and most prestigious privately owned oil firms in Nigeria.

According to reports, Obateru has a custom-built 2012 Rolls Royce similar to that of Queen Elizabeth II of England and a wristwatch that cost $1 million.

He is the first black person to buy the 2014 model Bentley automobile.
