TotalEnergies Forms Strategic Partnership With Amazon

TotalEnergies announced on Thursday that it has entered into a strategic collaboration with tech giants Amazon.com Inc.

The French energy major will provide renewable energy and potential battery energy solutions to Amazon in support of the US e-commerce giant’s goal of powering its operations with 100% renewable energy by 2030 and achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2040. The companies expect to expand their renewables partnership in the Middle East and the Asia Pacific.

The companies said that TotalEnergies and Amazon had signed power purchase agreements for a commitment of 474 megawatts (MW) of renewable capacity in the United States and Europe.

The strategic collaboration will also see Amazon advance TotalEnergies’ digital transformation. The French company expects cloud provider Amazon Web Services (AWS) to help it speed up its move to the cloud, boost its IT transformation, digitise its operations, and digital innovation.

“Working with TotalEnergies on innovative cloud technologies to ‎drive reductions in carbon emissions and present new renewable energy sources is a tremendous opportunity,” commented Kathrin Buvac, vice president, AWS Strategic Industries.
