Traffic Diverted As Tanker Explodes On Lagos-Ibadan Expressw

A fuel-laden tanker has reportedly exploded along the Ogun State axis of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

As a result of the accident, vehicular movements on the stretch of the road have been diverted.

The crash occurred at about 7:30 am on Friday between Fidiwo bridge and Foursquare.

While confirming the accident, the Ogun Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) revealed that three persons were involved in the accident, but no injury or death was recorded.

According to Florence Okpe, the Ogun FRSC Sector Command spokesperson, the crash involved an unregistered DAF tanker and one other vehicle.

“The suspected cause of the crash was wrongful overtaking, leading to scratch of two vehicles resulting in sparks of fire.

“The fire service men were contacted and traffic diverted immediately, with the crash scene cordoned off to avoid a secondary crash,” Okpe said.

Meanwhile, Okpe said stated that the Sector Commander, Ahmed Umar has advised motorists always to consider if it is right and safe whenever they want to overtake.

She added that Umar also advised motorists to drive cautiously and obey simple traffic rules.
