The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau has been ordered by the federal government to launch an investigation into the accident involving a train and a BRT bus in Ikeja, Lagos.
News of the collision made headlines on Thursday morning, with three reported dead while 84 others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
Videos of the accident victims facing harsh conditions at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) have gone viral, with the federal government reacting to the tragedy.
Taking to his Twitter page, the Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, commiserated with those affected.
He also disclosed that the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau experts have been instructed to begin an investigation.
Sirika also solicited the cooperation of members of the public as the investigation commences.
"My heart goes out to those who lost their lives in today’s train crash & those who got injured as well as the Government & people of Lagos.
"Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau experts have been directed to move quickly.
"We solicit public cooperation as investigation commences, pls", he stated.
