Transfer: Brentford Sign Dutch Goalie Flekken From Freiburg

Mark Flekken

Premier League club Brentford have announced the signing of highly-rated Dutch goalkeeper Mark Flekken from Bundesliga side Freiburg.

The 29-year-old shot-stopper joins the English club on a four-year contract, following an impressive season in the German top flight.

Flekken, who has also received a call-up for the Netherlands' Nations League finals, is excited to embark on this new chapter in his career and is eager to contribute to Brentford's future success.

While the financial details of the transfer were not disclosed, both British and German media outlets reported that Brentford paid the release clause of 13 million euros ($14.31 million) to secure Flekken's services.

It is expected that he will replace David Raya as the club's first-choice goalkeeper.

Flekken's outstanding performances for Freiburg caught the attention of football fans and experts alike.

He recorded an impressive tally of 13 clean sheets in 34 matches, leading the Bundesliga in this category.

His contributions played a significant role in Freiburg's successful campaign, as they finished fifth in the league and secured qualification for the Europa League.

Brentford's head coach, Thomas Frank, expressed his excitement about the new addition to the squad, praising Flekken's qualities.

"He's a player with a lot of quality... He has big experience and joins us after two great seasons with Freiburg, who have just had a top season in the Bundesliga, finishing fifth and qualifying for the Europa League," Frank said.

Brentford, in their second Premier League campaign under Frank's guidance, finished ninth in the previous season.

With the addition of Flekken, the club aims to continue their upward trajectory and further establish themselves in England's top flight.
