Transfer: Brighton Turns Down Arsenal's Fresh £70m Bid For Moises Caicedo

Transfer: Brighton Turns Down Arsenal's Fresh £70m Bid Fo

The Gunners have had their fresh £70m bid for teenage midfielder Moises Caicedo rejected by Brighton.

Brighton remains adamant that the midfielder will remain at the club despite Arsenal's proposition of a club-record transfer, surpassing the £60m sale of Marc Cucurella to Chelsea in the summer.

Arsenal had initially offered the Seagulls £60m for the 21-year-old last week but Brighton insisted that the midfielder is not up for sale.

This prompted Caicedo to plead with Brighton to let him leave and join the Premier League leaders in a statement on Instagram.

His words inter alia were: "I am proud to be able to bring in a record transfer fee for Brighton which would allow them to reinvest it and help the club continue to be successful.

"The fans have taken me into their hearts and they will always be in my heart so I hope they can understand why I want to take up this magnificent opportunity."

Reacting to his viral Instagram post, the midfielder was told by the club management to stay away from training with the Seagulls until after Tuesday's transfer deadline.

The hunt for a new midfielder for Arsenal is far from over following a suspected long-term injury to Mohamed Elneny and a new fitness worry over Thomas Partey.

Mikel Arteta hopes to remedy his midfield crisis before the close of the January transfer window so as to have a better fighting chance in the Premier League title race.
