João Cancelo has forwarded an emotional goodbye message to Manchester City as he is closing in on joining Bayern Munich.

AllNews Nigeria earlier reported that the Portugal international is poised to sign for Bayern Munich on loan before the January transfer deadline.

Man City's contract with Bayern for the full-back highlights that he will stay at the German club until the end of the season with a view to a permanent deal worth up to £61.5m in the summer.

Cancelo fell out of favour at Manchester City, prompting Pep Guardiola to sanction his exit having had only three appearances post-World Cup.

Taking to Instagram on Tuesday, the Portuguese expressed that Man City will always have a place in his heart despite his loan departure.

"Once a Cityzen, always a Cityzen. Thank you," the 28-year-old wrote.
