Troops Eliminate Bandits Several Kilometres Off Kaduna-Abuja

In an ongoing operation, troops of the Nigerian Army have eliminated armed bandits several kilometres off the Kaduna-Abuja road. 

The operation was part of the campaign to take the fight to the bandits' hideouts. 

This was contained in a statement by the Kaduna state Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan on Thursday.

According to the statement: According to operational feedback, troops acting on credible intelligence carried out aggressive fighting patrols to Abasiya-Amale area located east of Polewire in Kachia LGA, where they engaged the bandits. 

"In the fierce battle, the troops overpowered the bandits and subsequently destroyed their hideouts. 

"Troops are still combing the general area at the time of this update, while the corpses of two neutralized bandits have been recovered."

Items recovered during the operation according to the statement include one AK-47 rifle, two magazines carrying 38 rounds of ammunition and one cell phone.

While noting that some bandits escaped with life-threatening injuries, he cautioned locals on rendering assistance to the bandits. 

He further called on the public to report any suspicious person to the following numbers: 09034000060 and 08170189999.

Meanwhile, the governor of Kaduna state, Malam Nasir El-Rufa'i commended the troops for the success recorded.
