Trudeau: Ukrainian Plane Brought Down By Iranian Missile

Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, on Thursday, said that all collated evidence points to the fact that the Ukrainian plane that crashed on Tuesday was as a result of a missile shot at it by the Iranian Government, stating that the crash “may have been unintentional.”

He asserts that this evidence is corroborated by Canadian and allied intelligence, although not going into details about the mentioned intelligence, saying that the strike was a "surface-to-air missile."

“We have intelligence from multiple sources including our allies and our own intelligence. The evidence indicates that the plane was shot down by an Iranian surface-to-air missile.

“This may well have been unintentional.”

U.S. officials had earlier hinted that the plane was shot downed by an Iranian anti-craft missile that killed over 176 people aboard the plane, also saying that it may have been an error on their part, too.

Sixty-three Canadians were among those that die in the crash that came hours after Iran had fired a volley of missiles against U.S. military bases in Iraq, sending a message to Washington over the air-strike that killed one of their top military commanders, Qaseem Soleimani.

In response to the question on whether the attack by the U.S. on Iran was to blame for the crash, Trudeau responded saying, "I think it is too soon to be drawing conclusions or assigning blame or responsibility in whatever proportions.”

It was confirmed by Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky, that no one survived the crash.

Via a post on Facebook, Zelensky said, “According to preliminary information, all passengers and crew members had died.

“Our embassy is working to clarify information on the circumstances of the tragedy and the list of deceased passengers.

“My sincere condolences to families and loved ones of all passengers and crew members.”
