Trying To Conceive: Six Tips To Get Pregnant

Trying To Conceive: Six Tips To Get Pregnant

The urgency that comes with trying to conceive once couples are ready to start having kids can sometimes lead to panic and anxiety.

It might even be that they never wanted to start having babies up until that point. The minute they however decide and are ready to start having their biological children, waiting is the last thing they want. This applies especially to women.

Doctor Toluwani Binutu, a Medical Practitioner has compiled six useful tips that can improve couples' chances of getting pregnant sooner, rather than later.

1. Carry your doctor along:

It is best to get a doctor involved in the process from the beginning. This is essential so that it can be known for sure if the couples are fertile enough and also physically able to begin this chapter of their lives.

Couples at the doctor

A Doctor can place a woman on Folic Acid to reduce the risk of birth defects. The Doctor can also easily detect if there is a problem and start treatment immediately. The good news is that most cases of infertility can be managed, therefore, there is no cause to be afraid to get tested by a doctor.

2. Monitor your menstrual cycle:

A woman should ensure that she is having sex at the right time in her cycle. In other words, no matter what you do, you should ensure that you are having lots of sex around the time you are ovulating. Ovulation is usually 12 to 16 days before your period starts.

Unfortunately, the above is hard to predict in women who have irregular cycles. An ovulation predictor application is highly recommended to keep a tab.

3. Regular sexual intercourse:

Sex

Medical Practitioners have recommended that couples trying to conceive should have sex at least three times a week.

The sex should be vaginal, unprotected, and ejaculatory in nature. In other words, the sperm must enter the vagina.

After sex, it is recommended that the woman lies in bed for about 15 minutes. There is however no need for her to raise her legs or place them on the wall.

4. Choice of Lubricants:

It has been discovered that some lubricant reduces sperm motility and viability during sexual intercourse. Refrain from using saliva, KY Jelly, Petroleum jelly, and Olive oil.

Lubricants that have Glycerine, Silicone, flavouring, any kind of sugar, preservatives like parabens, propylene glycol, benzocaine, antibacterial agents like Chlorhexidine gluconate, and spermicide called nonoxynol-9 (N-9) should be avoided.

Lubricants like pre-seed, canola & mineral oils are recommended.

5. Age Factor:

A woman's fertile years are usually between her late teens and late 20s. From age 30, her fertility starts to decline and the decline starts to build faster from age 35 onwards.

This is however not always the case because there are a lot of women who have gotten pregnant in their late thirties and even forties. The most important thing is to take the right steps and work closely with a Doctor.

6. Maintaining a healthy body and mind:

The importance of making healthy choices cannot be over-emphasized. This is because doing so improves your chances of getting pregnant.

Healthy body and mind

Eating healthy meals together with an adequate amount of folic acid is good for the process. It is also encouraged to get adequate rest, reduce caffeine intake, get involved in physical activities, and maintain a healthy weight.

More importantly, be patient with yourself.
