The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) has warned that communities in the Arab and Mediterranean are at risk of a tsunami by 2030.
The Daily Sabah on Saturday reports that the organisation confirmed that it would train all coastal communities to deal with the matter.
It said it considers the global tsunami warning system insufficient in saving lives, so coastal communities must also be trained to respond correctly.
Statistics indicate that the probability of a tsunami in the Mediterranean during the next 30 years is close to 100 per cent.
It added that 78 per cent of tsunamis are caused by seismic activity, 10 per cent by volcanic activity and landslides, and 2 per cent by meteorological activity.
