Tuchel, McKenna early contenders for Chelsea job

Tuchel, McKenna early contenders for Chelsea job

Following the shocking 'sack' of Mauricio Pochettino as Chelsea manager on Tuesday, two coaches have emerged as leading contenders to replace the Argentine.

Outgoing Bayern Munich coach Thomas Tuchel and Ipswich boss, Kieran McKenna have been touted Tuesday evening by the English press to be in the consideration of Chelsea owners.

Pochettino led the Blues to a sixth-place finish in the Premier League and qualification to the Europa League bouncing back from an average season that saw them hover in mid-table positions.

Tuchel is expected to leave Bayern after insisting that there was no going back after efforts made by the Bavarians to convince him to stay.

For Mckeena, taking the team to the Premier League after he also gained promotion from League One to the Championship in the penultimate season offers a glimpse of what he can offer besides being in his 30s.

According to a report in the Irish Times, Pochettino wanted more power, especially in strategy, player identification and recruitment.

However, the difference in opinion after his talks with the co-sporting directors, Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley, and the co-controlling owner Behdad Eghbali for two days failed to yield an amicable end.
