The Defense Ministry of Turkey announced on Thursday that since the beginning of the year, a total of 794 terrorists have been eliminated in 320 operations.

These operations, comprising 19 large-scale and 301 medium-scale actions, have been conducted in northern Iraq and Syria.

The ministry further highlighted that since July 24, 2015, a significant number of 38,137 terrorists have been eliminated, including in the regions of northern Iraq and Syria.

Turkey’s approach to combating the terrorist threat strictly adheres to international law, ensuring respect for the borders and territorial integrity of neighbouring countries, particularly Iraq.

The operations carried out by Turkey are based on the right of self-defence and solely target terrorist elements in the region.

Turkey initiated Operation Claw-Lock in April of last year to specifically target PKK terrorist hideouts in the Metina, Zap, and Avasin-Basyan regions of northern Iraq, which are close to the Turkish border.

This operation followed two previous operations, Claw-Tiger and Claw-Eagle, conducted in 2020 to eliminate terrorists hiding in northern Iraq and plotting cross-border attacks against Turkey.
