Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has put forth a proposal for the establishment of an international commission to investigate the destruction of Ukraine's Khakhovka dam.
He made this proposition during separate phone conversations with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russia's Vladimir Putin on Wednesday.
President Erdoğan suggested that the commission should include experts from the warring parties, the United Nations, and the international community, including Türkiye, to conduct a detailed investigation into the reported blast that caused the dam's rupture.
The aim is to uncover the truth behind the incident and assign responsibility.
In his discussions with President Putin, President Erdoğan emphasized the necessity of a comprehensive investigation into the destruction of the Kakhovka dam, which is located on the frontline between Russian and Ukrainian forces.
The dam plays a critical role in providing cooling water to the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power station, Europe's largest, situated upstream along the Dnipro River.
The breach of the dam resulted in a torrent of water flooding the river, forcing thousands of civilians to evacuate and raising concerns about potential ecological consequences.
