Twitter Ban: Reno Omokri Dares Malami On Planned Prosecution

Reno Omokri has dared the Attorney-General Abubakar Malami on his plan to prosecute Pastor Adeboye, Bishop Oyedepo, and Pastor Kumuyi following their continued use of Twitter after it was banned in the country.

Omokri in his response to a report by the Peoples Gazette on Minister of Culture and Information Lai Mohammed saying Malami had the right to prosecute whoever he chose, said that he would like to see the Attorney-General go ahead with the prosecution of the renowned clergymen.

According to the news outlet, Mohammed had made the comments when asked if Adeboye, Oyedepo, and Kumuyi were going to be prosecuted for still making use of the social media platform.

"Lai Mohammed says Pastor Adeboye, Pastor Kumuyi, Bishop Oyedepo, and Apostle Suleman will all be prosecuted by Malami", wrote Omokri. "I will like to see that happen. Perhaps that will be the beginning of the end of our tolerance for the incompetence of this regime."

Pastor Adeboye had on Monday insisted on using his Twitter handle despite the recent ban by the federal government, stating that his tweets were in accordance with Article 19 of the UN universal declaration of human rights.

Adeboye had said, "The Redeemed Christian Church of God is domiciled in more than 170 Nations & Territories. The tweets here are in accordance to Article 19 of the UN universal declaration of Human Rights."

In the same vein, Pastor Kumuyi of the Deeper Life Bible Church had stated that his tweets were directed at the church's global audience spread across five different continents and more than 100 countries.

"In view of the Twitter ban in Nigeria, please note that the content shared on this handle is targeted at a global audience in more than five continents and over 100 Nations and we share the content from any of these locations", Kumuyi had said.
