Twitter Reinstates High-Profile Accounts Starting With Jorda

Twitter announced on Friday that the accounts of three controversial users, including conservative satire site Babylon Bee, conservative author (and former YouTube personality) Jordan Peterson and comedian Kathy Griffin have been reinstated.

Musk stated he has "not yet made a judgement" on the former president Donald Trump, despite having earlier declared he would lift the embargo.

According to Musk, the event is a part of "Freedom Fridays." It also seems to go against Musk's earlier promise to establish a moderating council before lifting prohibitions or making other key content choices.

The council was tasked with making sure Twitter's guidelines took into account a variety of opinions.

Peterson and Babylon Bee were both banned earlier this year for breaking Twitter's policies on hate speech that defend transgender individuals.

Griffin was suspended in the meanwhile for mimicking Musk in response to Twitter's disastrous pay-for-verification launch.

As you may expect, there will be many who oppose these acts. Due to his "hateful and false narratives," for instance, internet bans on Peterson were backed last summer by LGBTQ rights activists like GLAAD.

The tech tycoon forewarned that many limitations would still apply to some content.

He added that hateful and other harmful tweets would be "max deboosted & demonetized."

While this wouldn't apply to entire accounts, it would render offensive tweets hidden unless you knew where to look for them and stop Twitter from making money off of that content.

Musk continued, "Free speech" on Twitter didn't equate to "freedom of reach."

In order to strike a compromise between his personal preferences and business realities, Musk combined lifted bans with a new moderation policy.

While arguing that Twitter should be a place of unrestricted speech where bans are extremely uncommon, he has also made an effort to reassure advertisers concerned that their promotions would be displayed next to offensive tweets and other content.

This means that even while the content's authors are now permitted on Musk's site, he might still need to crack down on harmful material.
