Twitter Tests New Feature That Allows Removal Of Followers

Twitter has launched a test of one of the social privacy features with the ability to remove followers without blocking them.

The new feature is expected to be particularly helpful to users who have experienced online abuse. You will disappear from their feed without notifications that might spark harassment and threats.

According to the Twitter support page, the feature will make it easy to remove a follower or, as it explains, “be the curator of your own follower list.” A group of people will be able to remove followers without blocking them on the web.

To remove a follower, just follow these steps:

  • Go to your profile and click Followers;
  • Click the three-dot icon;
  • Select “Remove this follower.”

This is coming alongside a string of anti-harassment and privacy-related projects, though, including a "Safety Mode" test and an experimental option to automatically archive tweets. It might be just a matter of time before tighter follower control is available to a wider audience.
