Two accidents claim three lives, injure 22 others

Two separate road accidents in Osun State, on Sunday, tragically resulted in the loss of three lives and left 22 others injured.

The first accident occurred in Aagba and involved a collision between a motorcycle carrying three passengers and a private car. Details remain sparsely, but it is reported that the car's driver fled the scene following the crash.

Unfortunately, all three individuals on the motorcycle died at the site of the accident.

The Osun State Command's Public Relations Officer for the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Kehinde Adeleke, confirmed the incident. “The collision involved a Toyota Camry with plate number AKD 810 QX and a motorcycle. Sadly, the three persons on the motorcycle lost their lives instantly".

In a separate incident on the same day, another accident occurred in Sekona, on the Osogbo-Gbongan expressway.

According to Adeleke, “The accident was caused by a Toyota Hummer bus that veered out of its lane and collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle.” This crash resulted in injuries to 22 passengers.

“It was discovered that the Toyota Hummer bus driver slept while driving. Adult men and women including children sustained varying degrees of injuries/ fractures, while the Toyota Hummer bus (driver) sustained fractures on both legs.

“Three persons in the Fiat Van and 19 were injured in the Toyota Hummer bus. The victims were evacuated and taken to Sekona Government Clinic for first aid and were later moved to UNIOSN Teaching Hospital by Government ambulance for proper medical attention", he added.

The Osun NSCDC State Commandant, Dr Michael Adaralewa, expressed concern over many auto crashes recorded during the festive period.

Adaralewa enjoined members of the public to avoid reckless driving.

He also urged them not to drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs, urging commuters to exercise caution and restraint while driving.
