Two Arrested As Headless Body of 10-year-old Found In Rivers

Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in Rivers State have arrested two persons in connection with the discovery of the headless body of a 10-year-old boy, identified as Destiny Peter, in Azumini community, Isiokpo, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Aside from his missing head, it was gathered that the victim’s intestine was also removed, as he was reportedly lured into the bush by a yet-to-be-identified assailant.

It was learnt that the discovery caused panic in the community, as many wondered who could be responsible for the murder.

Resident of the area claimed that such a thing had not happened in the community before.

“This may be a ritual killing, but nobody knows for sure. Let the government and the police come and help us get to the bottom of the killing of this poor innocent boy," one resident who would not give his name said.

“We heard that the boy was living with his aunt, but she was not around when somebody came to take him out. When she came back, she did not see the boy and she started shouting and crying,” he added.

The victim’s aunt, Victory Johnson, who lamented the incident while speaking in Port Harcourt, said Destiny lived with her for over seven years.

She explained that he was last seen around 4.30pm last Thursday after a neighbour invited him to his house.

Victory said Destiny’s body was found following the intervention of some youths after a girl stated that she sighted him with an unidentified man moving towards a bush.

It was learnt that the remains of the 10-year-old had been deposited in a mortuary.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Nnamdi Omoni, who confirmed the incident, described it as unfortunate.

He said two suspects had been arrested over the incident.

“Yes, I can confirm it.  The matter, for now, has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department and justice will be served," Omoni said.
