Two die in Anambra auto crash

Two individuals lost their lives in a road accident that occurred at Azia junction, along the Owerri-Ihiala Expressway in Anambra State on Friday.

The accident involved a single vehicle, a Mercedes truck driven by an unidentified commercial driver.

Reports indicate that the accident occurred around 9:30 am and was attributed to excessive speed and loss of control. According to an eyewitness, the driver was travelling at high speed when he lost control of the vehicle, causing it to collide with a large gutter by the roadside.

Confirming the incident, Margaret Onabe, the acting Sector Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra State, stated that two adult males, including the driver and his conductor, were involved in the crash. Both individuals lost their lives in the accident.

The bodies of the deceased were taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital Mortuary in Ihiala by well-meaning individuals before the arrival of the FRSC rescue team. Onabe further noted that the rescue team had cleared the debris from the expressway, restoring normalcy to vehicular and human movement.

Corps Commander Adeoye Irelewuyi, the Sector Commander of Anambra State FRSC, expressed condolences to the families of the victims and cautioned motorists against excessive speeding. He emphasized the importance of driving within safe speed limits to ensure road safety for all.
