Two Killed As Gunmen Attack Police Station In Anambra

A police officer and a member of a local vigilante have been killed by gunmen who attacked the anti-cult Police station in Obosi, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The gunmen reportedly stormed the anti-cult formation of the force at 11 pm on Thursday, February 2, 2023, and opened fire on the men on duty.

The attackers that came in three unmarked vehicles targeted to destroy the entire facility with explosives but for the efforts of officers on duty.

However, during the heavy gun battle that ensued, a police officer and a member of the local vigilante were fatally wounded.

DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, PPRO, Anambra State Police Command who confirmed the report said officers resisted the invaders and recovered explosives and other dangerous weapons.

He said: “on 2/2/2023 by 11 pm, police operatives attached to anti-cult, Obosi, averted a planned arsonist attack on the anti-cult unit, Obosi, Idemili South, and recover unexploded explosives and other dangerous materials.

“The hoodlums came in three unmarked vehicles, a highlander, one Toyota Sienna, and one Toyota Corolla started shooting sporadically and threw petrol bombs in the station. The operatives stood firm, engaged the criminals and thwarted the heavily planned damage to the buildings in the formation.

“During the gun duel by the responding team comprising Police and vigilante operatives, unfortunately, one Police operative and a vigilante member were fatally hit by a bullet and the already fire ignited by the petrol bomb they threw inside the police compound affected partially a few of the offices.

“The fire has been put off, and Operations are still ongoing, further details shall be communicated.”
