Two Killed, Others Injured As Gunmen Attack Church In Kogi

Three people were injured and two others killed when unidentified gunmen attacked a Celestial Church in Felele, Lokoja, Kogi State.

The incident reportedly took place late on Sunday night in Felele, behind the NNPC Mega station.

An eyewitness described how the shooters rushed into the chapel and began firing randomly.

Further information revealed that while numerous others fled for safety, two persons died instantly.

Treatment for the injured victims is now being provided at Lokoja's Federal Medical Center (FMC).

An eyewitness said, “When they entered, they started shooting at everyone outside the church. I now went and hid inside a cassava farm. What I saw yesterday was like an action film in a movie. Kogi is no longer safe”.

On Monday morning, William Ovye Aya, the Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), verified the event.

He claimed that thugs broke into the church and began shooting at worshippers.

“It was a distress call that the Divisional Police Officer of B Division Felele received that hoodlums invaded a Celestial Church behind NNPC mega station and they began shooting.

“Two people were confirmed dead in the hospital, while three are receiving treatment.

“The Commissioner of Police has deployed our operatives, and ordered the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the investigation, to commence an investigation to unravel the cause of the attack to arrest the perpetrators,” he said.
