Two men simply identified as Sunday Gabriel, (27), and Dominic Uhinel, (30) have been remanded for allegedly breaking into a warehouse and stealing cartons of “Omeprazole” worth N2.5 million.
Omeprazole is a drug used to treat heartburn and indigestion. The police charged the defendants with four counts bordering on theft, conspiracy and break in.
Gabriel, however, pleaded guilty to the charges levelled against while Uhinel pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecution Counsel, ASP A.A. Katunka, of Magistrates’ Court in Ebute Meta, Lagos told the court that the defendants committed the offence on April 6, at about 2.30 a.m., at Cume Park, Iddo Terminus, Oyingbo.
He alleged that the defendants broke into the warehouse of Mr Eze Okwudili, the complainant, and carted cartons of Omeprazole capsules worth N2.5 million.
The Chief Magistrate, Bola Folarin-Williams, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N250,000 with two sureties in like sum who must be gainfully employed and be blood relatives.
She ordered that the sureties must also show evidence of tax payment to the state government and be owners of landed property within the court’s jurisdiction.
The first defendant, Gabriel was remanded in the Ikoyi custodial centre until July 4 for possible facts and sentencing and for mention.
