Two mobile phone thieves nabbed in Asaba

Two thieves who specialized in stealing mobile phones from unsuspecting passengers in commercial tricycles in Asaba, Delta State, were apprehended by sympathizers and handed over to the police.

The suspects, 27-year-old Collins Akpinoba and his accomplice David Paulson, aged 38, were caught after stealing a handset belonging to a passenger named Ezeugwu Akanso.

According to a statement by the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the victim had boarded a commercial tricycle at Konwea Plaza along Nnebisi Road to Okpanam Road Asaba and noticed his phone was missing shortly afterward.

He raised an alarm, prompting sympathizers to chase the suspects who attempted to flee.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects specialized in robbing unsuspecting passengers, and some of their victims have identified them.

In another incident, an Anti-Crime patrol team intercepted a 25-year-old man named John Chikwuji, a native of Ekuku-Agbor, who was found in possession of a Beretta pistol while traveling from Agbor to Ekuku-Agbor community.

The State Commissioner of Police, Abaniwonda Olufemi, warned all criminals to refrain from illegal activities, emphasizing the command's commitment to addressing social challenges and combating violent crimes.
