Tragedy struck in the Akoko area of Ondo State as two motorcyclists, including a 28-year-old man named Dada Jatto, were brutally murdered at separate locations.
The victims' motorcycles were also stolen by their assailants. Jatto, a well-known commercial motorcyclist in Iyani-Akoko, was reported missing for three days before his mutilated body was discovered on Tuesday along Oke-Agbe Road, near Arigidi-Akoko.
His damaged phone was found beside his body, but his motorcycle remains missing.
The identity of the second victim has not been disclosed.
Similarly, the second incident also involved an unidentified motorcyclist suspected to hail from one of the Northern states.
The assailant reportedly lured the victim into a hideout between Ikare and Arigidi-Akoko where he used a sledgehammer to smash his head.
However, the victim prior to his eventual death at an undisclosed hospital, was able to describe his assailant and the snatcher of his motorbike.
The description led to the arrest of the suspected assailant by vigilant security agents in the area with the same bike at Akunu-Akoko, a border town with Kogi State.
Meanwhile, residents of Iyani-Akoko in Akoko North-West local government have been thrown into mourning over the untimely death of the Jatto.
Residents described the father of two as a highly diligent and hardworking young man.
The remains of the deceased had been deposited at the mortuary in the area.
When contacted via phone call, Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, confirmed one of the incidents.
Odunlami-Omisanya said, “One of the cases has been reported to us and investigation into it had commenced immediately”.
