Robbers Apprehended by the Benue State Volunteer Guard

The Benue State Community Volunteer Guards (BSCVG) on Tuesday arrested two suspected criminals for snatching mobile phones and money from travellers at Yaman park Wurukum, Makurdi state capital.

The suspects were allegedly apprehended with two locally made pistols at the time of the arrest.

The suspects gave their names as Ugba Terese, popularly known as (Big Sharp) of St Augustine Church Demekpe, Makurdi, and Orjime Ahamgba Kanyima of behind Navy Barracks Kanshio, Makurdi.

When questioned, the suspects admitted snatching a phone from a traveller who alighted from Kano last night, as well as collecting Twelve Thousand Naira (N12,000) from another traveller last week at gunpoint.

They explained that they normally convince travellers with tricks who eventually become their victims.

In their words: "I begged him to let me make a call with his phone and he obliged. Then, my friend followed him with slaps in the face.

"Out of fear, he ran away leaving us with the phone."

During the interview, the two suspects said they were on the job spanning years but however begged for forgiveness from their victims, BSCVG, Police and the public, saying they would desist forthwith if forgiven.

Parading the suspects at the BSCVG State Operational Office Railway Station Makurdi, the Patrol & Gaurd Officer (P&G), Ime Nathan along with the Principal Staff Officer (PSO) to the Commandant officer Adi Titus all reiterated their commitment to intensify such operations, promising that no stone will be left unturned to wiping out criminals in the state.

Ime said they would hand over the suspects to the police to continue the investigation and subsequent prosecution after the parade even as efforts were still on to tack other members of the syndicate.

On his part, Commandant of BSCVG Capt Ayuma Ajobi (Rtd) said so far, he was impressed with the team for their stride and called for support from the public to volunteer information that will lead to more arrests of the criminals causing unrest amongst travellers and other peace-loving citizens of the state.
